The Sasol BRIDGE TO WORK (BtW) is a program designed to enhance employability among unemployed individuals, with a special emphasis on youth and women. Sasol has partnered with Deviare to deliver the inaugural 4IR Bridge to Work Program.

South Africa’s unemployment rate is the highest it has ever been at 34%. Youth unemployment is even worse, sitting at approximately 70% (first quarter of 2022).
Efforts to address this problem have not yielded any major breakthrough and the problem seems to be multiplying faster than solutions can be developed. In part the crisis relates to the poor capitalisation of latent potential among young people. As the global demand for new age
digital skills grows at an accelerated rate across industries, South Africa MUST rapidly develop internationally competitive skills in order to get a fair share of this global demand. This is the most sustainable way of creating jobs
4IR Bridge to Work Solution
Empower youth of Sasol fence line communities with applied 4IR skills in order to compete globally, create scalable start ups, build sustainable digital SMMEs that are relevant to their community, and secure employment where they can make a valuable contribution and transformative impact.
The programme considers the need to focus on technical skills as well as core or soft skills required to develop a well rounded digital entrepreneur and/or professional. Sasol’s fence line communities can develop local digital capabilities that can compete globally while
advancing the economic interests of the local community.
Programme Overview
Recruiting the right people
A data-driven recruitment platform designed to find young, unemployed youth to train through internships and skills programmes faster and reliably. The Deviare platform has amassed a user base of more than 12,000 registered individuals. With over 12,000 registered users, our platform comprises a user base that is 55% female, 98% Black African, and 55% with post-matric qualifications.
To ensure a secure environment, we conduct thorough background checks on all our users. Moreover, we offer Aptitude and Behavioral assessments to assess the skills and traits of our users accurately. Additionally, we provide flexible contracting options to accommodate the diverse needs and preferences of our users.

Stream 1: Global start-up
We offer a two-month program that includes an entrepreneurship bootcamp and exposure to start-ups. Following that, there is a three-month incubation process focused on developing a Minimum Viable Product (MVP). Additionally, we provide a one-month program to establish a business model and prepare for funding. Finally, there is a week dedicated to pitching to potential investors.
Stream 2: Local SMME
Virtual global apprenticeship for two months. One month of market analysis and three months of SMME activation
Stream 3: Employment
We start off with a work readiness programme for three months. Virtual global apprenticeship for 2 months. 1 week of personal impact assessment and three months of placing successful candidate in work
